There are a few Alice in Borderland season 3 theories that would change the show forever, from the meaning of the Joker Card to what the end of season 2 really meant. Considering how Alice in Borderland season 2 ended, it seemed unlikely that season 3 was going to happen. The Netflix adaptation of the Alice in Borderland manga had already covered all of the source material, meaning season 3 will essentially be an original story.
Apart from Alice in Borderland:Retry, a short, self-contained story, Arisu’s journey ends the moment he wakes up from the Borderlands. As such, it can be difficult to predict what will happen in Alice in Borderland season 3 based on the manga. That said, there are a few elements on the show that hint at where the story is going next. Here are 10 theories for what happens in Alice in Borderland season 3.
10 Alice In Borderland Season 3’s Joker Is The Creator Of The Borderlands
Alice in Borderland season 2’s Joker card tease will finally be paid off in the new season. While the Joker at the end of season 2 could have been something metaphorical or an element to create an open ending, the fact Alice in Borderland is returning for season 3 means that the remaining card actually means something for the story. There is a Joker card in the Alice in Borderland manga, but it is a very minor character who briefly appears toward the end. Alice in Borderland season 3’s Joker card marketing suggests this “Joker” may be the one who created the Borderlands.
9 Arisu & The Others Never Left The Borderlands In Season 2’s Finale
Alice in Borderland season 2’s finale can be compared to how Inception ended – the final shot raises the question of whether the characters returned to the real world. Initially, it seemed clear that Arisu and the others had returned to the real world after a near-death experience, during which their souls were in the Borderlands. However, as soon as the Joker card was shown, Alice in Borderland reminded audiences that there was still a game left to be played. Arisu may have never left the Borderlands, and season 3 will reveal this “real world” to be just another game.
8 Alice In Borderland Season 3 Will See Arisu Realise He’s Still Playing A Game
If Alice in Borderland season 2’s ending was indeed a fakeout, season 3 could see Arisu slowly realizing he never left the Borderlands. Arisu is not the only character who seems to have returned to the real world, and almost all of the friends he made throughout the show also woke up in the same hospital. The initial portion of Alice in Borderland season 3 could be about Arisu, Usagi, and the others noticing that something is off about the world before a new game is announced.
7 Alice In Borderland’s Joker Card Game Will Happen In The Real World
Instead of a “they never left the Borderlands twist,” season 3 could go for something very unique. Perhaps the Joker Card game or any other Alice in Borderland season 3 games will not take place in a different plane of existence – they will happen in the real world. It is still unclear what the Borderlands actually are, how it works, and who created it. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the same forces behind the Borderlands can have some sort of influence in the real world. After two seasons in which everything
6 Only Arisu & Usagi Will Have To Return To The Borderlands
Even if Arisu returned to the real world at the end of Alice in Borderland season 2, he and others might have to return to the Borderlands. More specifically, Arisu and Usagi, who sort of found each other again in season 2’s finale, will have to return to the games. Alice in Borderland season 3 might be more focused on Arisu and Usagi, who, as of the writing of this article, are the only confirmed returning characters. Alice in Borderland: Retry, the manga sequel to Alice in Borderland, was also centered on Arisu and Usagi and skipped all the other characters from the original story.
5 Alice In Borderland’s Characters Will Regain Their Memories From The Borderlands
None of the Alice in Borderland characters remember what happened in the Borderlands. All of the events of the show happened in a minute in the real world, with Arisu and the others momentarily dying before their hearts began to work again. While Arisu and Usagi feel like they know each other from somewhere, they have no idea about what they experienced together. The same applies to all the Alice in Borderland characters who survived. That said, Alice in Borderland season 3 could see Arisu and the others slowly remembering what happened in the Borderlands, thus bringing the main characters together once more.

4 All Surviving Alice In Borderland Characters Will Have To Play The Joker Card Game
Alice in Borderland: Retry focuses on Arisu and his life with Usagi only, but season 3 could go on a different route. Most of the Alice in Borderland characters were compelling and became quite popular, meaning it would not make sense to ignore them altogether. Season 3 could be about how everyone who survived the Borderlands, from Arisu and Usagi to Kuina and Chishiya, will have to get together again and play the Joker Card game.
3 Banda & Yaba Will Be Face Card Citizens In Alice In Borderland Season 3
Banda and Yaba, who participated in Alice in Borderland’s Jack of Hearts game, chose to stay in the Borderlands at the end of season 2. These two characters survived Solitary Confinement by showing how cruel they could be, and their decision to stay in the Borderlands was no surprise. It is assumed that those who died in the real world and stayed in the Borderlands become Face Gard players. Alice in Borderland season 3 could confirm this theory by showing Banda and Yaba as game masters of their own new games.
2 Alice In Borderland Season 3 Will Adapt Alice In Borderland: Retry
While it is unlikely that Alice in Borderland season 3 adapts the Retry manga, this possibility cannot be ruled out. Alice in Borderland: Retry is so far the closest thing to a sequel to Alice in Borderland. This one-shot manga takes place a few years after the events of Alice in Borderland. While neither Arisu nor Usagi ever regained their memories from the Borderlands, they eventually got married. Usagi is expecting a baby, and on the exact day she is expected to give birth, Arisu suffers an accident and returns to the Borderland. While an interesting story, Retry is quite short and doesn’t involve any of the original characters.
1 Alice In Borderland’s Chota & Karube Will Return
Alice in Borderland’s most tragic deaths were those of Chota and Karube, both of whom died in the first Hearts game of the show. The ending of Alice in Borderland season 2 means Chota and Karube died in the real world, which is why they died in the game. However, given that this “real world” may not be real after all, Alice in Borderland season 3 could see the return of these two characters. Both Chota and Karube appeared to Arisu a couple of times, but always as a fragment of his imagination.
