Lord Zedd’s final form in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury makes him ridiculously stronger than any other Power Rangers character, including Zordon and Dark Specter. While Lord Zedd was redeemed at the end of Power Rangers in Space, the villain surprisingly returned in Power Rangers Dino Fury. The story of this version of Lord Zedd, who experienced the events of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers but was never redeemed, now continued in Cosmic Fury.
Cosmic Fury takes place right after Dino Fury season 2 in Power Rangers’ chronological order. The newest Power Rangers season is set 30 years after Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and includes several Easter eggs and callbacks to the original show. Zedd, however, was more than just a nostalgic cameo. The original Power Rangers villain was the main antagonist in Cosmic Fury and gained a brand new, incredibly strong form.
Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Master Zedd Explained
After returning through dark magic in Power Rangers Dino Fury, Lord Zedd took on the role of the show’s main villain in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Working together with Squillia e Bajillia Naire, Lord Zedd captured all the Morphin Masters in Cosmic Fury episode 1. Lord Zedd’s secret plan was to turn the Morphin Masters into pure energy and use that energy to give himself new powers. In Power Rangers Cosmic Fury episode 9, Zedd accomplished his goal and acquired a new form – Master Zedd. Now powered by the energy of all Morphin Masters, Zedd momentarily became Power Ranger’s strongest character – by far.
The Morphin Masters are some of the oldest, most powerful beings in the Power Rangers universe. They predate every Power Rangers team and exist to protect the multiverse and the Morphin Grid itself. The Morphin Grid is what gives every Power Ranger their powers, meaning the Morphin Masters are essentially omnipotent. By stealing their power ahead of the Power Rangers Cosmic Fury ending, Zedd became more powerful than any Ranger or Zordon ever was. Fortunately for the Rangers, Zedd was betrayed by his own allies and was captured before he could actually use his new form. Still, Master Zedd’s brief fighting scenes showcased just how strong he had become.
Cosmic Fury’s Lord Zedd Return Honored The Original Power Rangers Villain
Lord Zedd’s return in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury was better than his previous role in Dino Fury. This time, Zedd was the main villain, which is most fitting given he is one of the original Power Rangers bad guys. Considering that Rita Repulsa was working for him all along, Lord Zedd is technically the first Power Rangers villain. Originally, Zedd was a threatening figure in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. However, at a later point, both Rita and Zedd became comic reliefs, which reduced a lot of their appeal as characters. Cosmic Fury honored these two chapters in Lord Zedd’s history, displaying him both as a threatening villain and as an unintentionally funny character.

Lord Zedd had not been a serious threat to the Power Rangers since Mighty Morphin season 2, which changed in Cosmic Fury. As Master Zedd, the villain was more than powerful enough to take over, or even destroy, the entire universe. Seeing Lord Zedd in hand-to-hand fights against the Power Rangers, including the original Blue Ranger Billy, was also great. Lord Zedd’s defeat in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury was hilarious and fit the show’s tone, with the Power Rangers trapping the villain on a mind loop in which he had to listen to Rita Repulsa all day. The Morphin Masters were restored, and Zedd is no longer a threat.
