Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Marvels. The recently released The Marvels appears to be setting up an exciting crossover in the forthcoming Deadpool 3. The third installment of Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool series will see Wade Wilson enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe and potentially bring Wolverine (with Hugh Jackman reprising the role) along with him. The Marvels closed out with the MCU’s traditional post-credits scene teasing future installments, but the specific setting one of its heroes winds up in within this scene likely has significant implications for Deadpool 3, given its multiversal premise.

The Marvels ending concludes with Monica Rambeau repairing a multiversal rupture, resulting in her being displaced into another reality. In a crowd-pleasing moment, Rambeau encounters this reality’s version of her mother, Maria Rambeau, who uses the alias Binary. She also meets Hank McCoy, better known as the X-Men’s Beast, played by Kelsey Grammer, but the specific details of this reality tie The Marvels to the upcoming Deadpool 3 in more ways than simply including a member of the X-Men.

The Marvel’s Ending Teases Deadpool 3’s Most Unexpected Crossover

This is not the first time an X-Men character has appeared in the MCU. 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Stephen Strange and America Chavez visit a reality that included The Illuminati, whose roster contained Professor X, played by Sir Patrick Stewart once again. Of course, this iteration of Charles Xavier is not the same one seen in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies, as he is played by the same actor but otherwise more closely resembles the Professor X from X-Men: The Animated Series. Moreover, the show’s theme is used instead of the motif by Michael Kamen that is used throughout the Fox movie franchise.

The Marvels implies that the universe Monica Rambeau winds up in is the Fox X-Men movie universe. The Kamen X-Men theme is used instead of the Animated Series theme, a living Charles Xavier is mentioned, and a living Maria Rambeau is using the Binary alias instead of going by Captain Marvel. If Monica Rambeau is now in the same universe as Deadpool 3, it is safe to assume that she will appear in the upcoming film, perhaps using her alias of Photon from the comics.

Why Photon Is Perfect For Deadpool 3

Monica Rambeau becoming Photon in The Marvels

With Monica Rambeau seemingly stranded in the Fox X-Men movie universe, having her be the key to Deadpool’s relocation to the proper MCU seems natural. Deadpool 3 will likely see the definitive end of the Fox X-Men reality, and Monica Rambeau, as a now-unwilling resident of the potentially doomed universe, could easily bring Wade Wilson home with her. The main MCU already has mutants, but Monica could inspire the establishment of a school for mutants in her native reality upon returning from the Fox universe, making Deadpool 3 the next step towards introducing the X-Men to the MCU.
